For over 59 years, the United Way of Thunder Bay has been working to improve local lives. Through community consultations, we strive to make meaningful long-term improvements to the quality of life for all people.
Having evolved from our roots as “fundraiser” to a community convenor, United Way of Thunder Bay brings together partners from business, government, labour, service providers, community leaders, and residents to create opportunities for a better life for everyone across Northwestern Ontario.
Lately, life feels hard. Yet, in these difficult times, we have an opportunity to come together and make a difference. We can choose to be brave, kind, and caring.

As we reflect on 2023, we are filled with immense gratitude for the dedication and support of our community, partners, and volunteers. Together, we have made a significant impact on countless lives. Many of us follow a similar path when we graduate high school: we might pursue post-secondary education, search for a career, and take on adult responsibilities. For folks with autism and other exceptionalities, however, that reality can look a bit different.
The DEK Foundation has become a beacon of hope for individuals in Thunder Bay impacted by addiction. Through compassion, advocacy, and action, DEK supports recovery, fights stigma and promotes dignity and respect for all.
The holiday season is traditionally a time of giving, and for the RFDA, it’s when they stock up on food to meet the needs of thousands in our community throughout the year. But this past holiday season, something changed. Donations were down – way down – and the impact is already being felt.
