Better Is Possible: Community Recovery Summit – Day 1
BETTER is Possible is an immersive two-day community engagement forum where leaders from nonprofit, business, and government sectors can come together to forge groundbreaking solutions to pressing issues of recovery after COVID 19, including support for community projects, events, and activities that contribute to making a better Thunder Bay for all.
Presented by Empower the North, a collaborative partnership with United Way of Thunder Bay, Lakehead Social Planning Council, Thunder Bay Community Foundation, Thunder Bay Public Library and Community Safety and Well-Being, this community recovery summit will offer a unique opportunity to be part of a collective effort to create positive change. A platform for learning, collaboration, and empowerment, where individuals and groups can play an active role in shaping the future of Thunder Bay.
A Funders Forum including information about securing financial assistance will be available to support your innovative solutions.

Day One
Collective Imagination Workshop – Better is Possible
• Over the course of day one, each group will engage in brainstorming radical new ideas that transcend traditional boundaries. This creative process is guided by the spirit of social innovation, encouraging diverse sectors to explore novel approaches to combat various issues surrounding the Social Determinants of Health.
A presentation session, where groups showcase their refined, game-changing solutions to counterparts from other groups. This dynamic exchange will not only highlight the diversity of innovative ideas but will also focus on how collective impact can amplify the effectiveness of each solution. Day one is ideal for those who are concerned about the future of our community.
You should attend Day One if you are a member of:

Day Two
Capacity Building Workshop – Transforming Ideas into Actionable Strategies
- An intensive and collaborative workshop designed to guide participants in transforming innovative project ideas into tangible, actionable first draft project plans.
- Leaders, mentors, and subject area experts will help each working group create the components of their project plan with agreed-upon recovery project ideas, actions, initiatives, goals, budget, timelines, deliverables, impact measurement, collaborative partners and responsibilities outlined.
- Each group will complete a comprehensive and structured first draft project plan. The product of their collaborative efforts will be a detailed document that serves as a roadmap for transforming their innovative project idea into an achievable initiative.
- Available funding opportunities and granting programs will be identified.
- Following the workshop, assistance in preparing a formal application for funding consideration will be provided by United Way of Thunder Bay.
