Join us in the fight to eliminate period poverty.

OUR PERIOD PROMISE

*To provide dignity, one box at a time*

We need your help, PERIOD.

Period Promise is an initiative that empowers community at all levels, to collectively support and learn about period poverty.  The United Way of Thunder Bay partners with a variety of workplaces & organizations to hold annual Period Promise initiatives across Thunder Bay & District to raise awareness and collect menstrual hygiene products to help address period poverty in our communities.

Menstrual hygiene products are very costly and far too many individuals, especially those living in poverty, simply can’t afford them.   They are one of the most requested – yet least donated items at food banks! Nobody should choose between feeding their family and being able to afford these products.

Be part of the solution to help end period poverty in our communities.

Please consider purchasing an extra box of product to add to a community collection bin.

This Impact Event is in collaboration with

Menstruation is a fact of life & “Period Poverty” is real!

Period poverty isn’t just a woman’s issue, it’s a community issue. It affects students trying to focus on their education, workers striving to succeed, and families working to make ends meet. By addressing period poverty, we’re not just meeting an immediate need – we’re creating a future of dignity and opportunity for all.

We believe everyone deserves the dignity of safe and accessible menstrual hygiene. Our period promise campaign aims to confront period poverty head-on by providing essential products to those in need and by advocating for systemic change. Solving this issue takes all of us.

People are missing school or leaving work, and too many people face the additional challenges of homelessness, living a disability, or just the stigma around having a period at all. It isn’t easy to ask for help, or know where to find it.

When people have access to the product they need, it improves their health and well-being and makes it easier for them to stay connected. And when they know that free product is available when they need it, it makes it easier for them to go to school or work or contribute to their community.

United Way is committed to making it easier for everyone to access the menstrual products they need. Every donation raises awareness, reduces stigma, and tackles the vulnerability and isolation caused by period poverty.

Approximately 34% of individuals that menstruate have to make budget sacrifices in order to afford menstrual products.

1 in 4 Canadians  who menstruate have to choose between buying food or period products each month.

Nearly 1 in 7 Canadian students who menstruate has either left school early or missed school entirely because they did not have access to period products.

 Quotes:

“Norwest Community Health Centre reached out to the United Way as there is a perpetual demand for feminine hygiene products across our programming streams and reaching out to community partners allows us to continue to provide this necessity to clients that we serve. Clients from programs such at Path 525, R.A.A.M., Safer Supply and Outreach will benefit from the generosity of the United Way through this annual event and kindness is always a win for community.”

Lisa Long, Norwest Community Health Centre

“A sincere and big thank you from all of us at Evergreen a United Neighbourhood for the amazing support from the United Way of Thunder Bay . By providing menstrual products to low income and women and girls overcome period poverty . It provides our youth, and their families have dignity to access tampons and pads easily and discreetly . Also, with our Indigenous families we honour the strength of women during their Moon Time. During moon time, women can ask Grandmother Moon for guidance, wisdom, and help for themselves and others.”
