Helping Kids Go to School Nourished and Ready to Learn

In Thunder Bay, hundreds of children rely on school breakfast and lunch programs during the week — but when the weekend comes, many face empty cupboards at home. That’s where Isthmus Thunder Bay steps in.
The program provides nutritious food that children can take home every Friday, ensuring they return to school on Monday fed and ready to learn. Over the last year, Isthmus Thunder Bay has supported more than 450 local children, with demand continuing to grow.
United Way of Thunder Bay recently contributed $1,000 to the program, raised through the Pay-it-Forward donation option as part of our CommUNITY BBQ in partnership with Dew Drop Inn, RFDA, and Roots Community Food Centre. But the need is greater than ever — and the waiting list keeps growing.
As part of our NOURISH the North initiative, we’re inviting supporters and workplace teams to get involved so this vital program can keep pace with demand. Together, we can ensure no child has to go hungry on weekends.
