About the United Way & Dew Drop Inn

The United Way RECOVER 2020 campaign is focused on supporting local people and families who are most in need. It’s about neighbours helping neighbours and community supporting community.

Prior to COVID-19, Thunder Bay was already struggling to tackle #UNIGNORABLE issues of poverty including hunger, homelessness, domestic violence, social isolation, mental health challenges and unemployment & education inequality. With the COVID-19 crisis ongoing, Thunder Bay organizations and service providers, such as the Dew Drop Inn, need extra help to deliver essential programs and services to people as the need for support has increased drastically. The recovery from COVID-19 will require unprecedented levels of community programming, services, resources, coordination and collaboration. The United Way of Thunder Bay is committed to supporting local partners to adapt to these changing needs and increase their capacity to best support Thunder Bay’s recovery for the long-term.

By supporting the recovery process, you are helping critical efforts to get Thunder Bay back on its feet.

The Dew Drop Inn has been feeding the hungry in Thunder Bay for 39 years now. They offer a safe, welcoming environment where men, women and children may eat with no questions asked and are treated with respect and dignity. Currently with COVID-19, they are offering a take-home lunch and on September 14th, they will also be offering a hot take-home meal from their dining room. In 2019 90,434 meals were served and they anticipate over 100,000 meals to be served in 2020.

Events like this would not be possible without collaboration and support from others in our community. We would like to sincerely thank our amazing event sponsors:

Sysco Foods
Bennett’s Bakery & Deli
Little Doo’s Farm

A heartfelt thank you to all those who purchase a ‘Take Me Home Dinner’. You are making a positive impact by helping meet the immediate needs of local people as we Recover, together.
