Celebrating the 2014 Campaign
Over 200 community members gathered on February 19 at the Victoria Inn and Convention Centre to join the United Way of Thunder Bay in celebrating the success of their 2014 fundraising campaign. Co-Host and Campaign Chair, Michael Nitz along with his Campaign Team revealed that a remarkable $2,662,670 has been donated to the local organization; the largest amount in their 50 year history.
“Your generous support is offering a lifeline for local people with nowhere else to turn.” Nitz responded to the cheering crowd after the amount was revealed. “Your donations are helping families to end the cycle of domestic violence, feeding hungry young students, and offering counselling and other supports to people who are struggling. Thanks to you, so many of our friends, families and neighbours have a second chance for a better life!” The United Way’s 29 Funded Agencies also took to the stage to offer their thanks to the generous supporters in a moving presentation which noted some of the ways donations are helping to change lives, right here in our community.
The organization was pleased to recognize the nearly 300 workplace employee campaigns at the event by giving out their annual Employee Awards. Over half of all donations made to the United Way come directly from the Employee Campaigns though their payroll donations, barbeques, dress-down days and other events. Special thanks was also given to of all of the generous volunteers who took the initiative to help organize, manage and run the employee campaigns within each workplace, as these people are integral to the success of the campaign. A complete listing of the campaigns will be shared in a full-page ad in Saturday’s Chronicle-Journal newspaper, and also at www.uwaytbay.ca.
The celebration party wrapped up the 2014 campaign but also served as the first fundraiser for the 2015 campaign by way of its live and silent auctions, which are always a hit with guests. Auction items were donated by community members and local businesses.
The United Way of Thunder Bay extends its heartfelt appreciation to each and every person, group and organization that was a part of the 2014 campaign effort. It is truly a wonderful thing to see a community come together in such a remarkable show of support for one another. Thank you and congratulations!!
