United Way of Thunder Bay - Get Involved - Employee Campaigns - What is involved in having an employee campaign?

What is involved in having an employee campaign?

An Employee Campaign Chair (ECC):

This is an employee who organizes the Employee Campaign. For larger institutions this may also involve a committee. The ECC hands out pledge forms, encourages employees to support the campaign, and then collects the forms. Sometimes a fun event is organized to create awareness about the United Way. In smaller workplaces the ECC could be the payroll person. This person is supported by a United Way staff member and a Sponsored Employee (an individual lent to the United Way for 16 weeks from their employer to assist with Employee Campaigns).

Payroll:

Payroll simply makes the deductions from the employee’s paycheck, records the amount on the T4 and distributes the collected funds to United Way, much like any other deductions. United Way distributes the employee’s donation according to their wishes as indicated on their payroll deduction form , supplied by United Way. The payroll person is supported by United Way Administration Staff.

Presentation:

It is recommended that an annual presentation be made to all staff or staff groups by a United Way speaker at a staff meeting or other convenient time. It is understood that this might not be possible every year, but presentations do have a positive impact on Employee Campaign giving and thereby impact the community. The speaker explains what the role of United Way is in the community and how it assists people from all walks of life (1 in 3 persons). Presentations take approximately 10 minutes. A client speaker from one of the United Way's 29 Funded Agencies is usually brought in to talk about how the United Way Community Fund helped them. It is outlined how every dollar counts, and no donation is too small to make a difference in the lives of local people.

United Way of Thunder Bay is leading the way to a better community by improving the quality of life for all local people. By collaborating with community partners, we are leading the way to addressing social issues in our community and investing in three critical areas: Poverty, Kids and Strong Communities. Donations to the United Way are strategically invested across Thunder Bay to many vital programs and initiatives in these areas, creating a social safety net that works to achieve lasting change for our neighbours, families and friends.
